[MW:6348] Re: Stainless Steel, duplex and super duplex need charpy or not?

Dear Shukri,

Impact Test is required in SS, DSS, SDSS also as per following
details:

Section VIII-Div 1- UHA-50 is applicable.

Base material is exempted from impact testing in Austinitic SS(P8)
upto -196 degree centigarde MDMTor warmer

Base material of Duplex & Super Duplex is Exempted upto -29 degree or
warmer if thickness is less than 10mm, please note for thickness more
than 10mm impact is required.

Please note for P8 weld metal exemption is applicable upto -104 degree
centigarde only, while for 10H the same upto -29 degree with thickness
limitation.

In case of thermal treatment above exemptions are not applicable the
same is revised for P8 from -196 to -29.

The other condition to get the impact examption is by calculating
Coincident Ratio of Design Stress , if less than 0.35 we can get the
impact exemption in base metal as well as in welding procedure/
production test coupen.
