RE: [MW:6368] Hydrotesting of pipeline

Dear Sumit

Some clients especify what kind of NDT and the percentaje that has to be aplied for headers , here in Ecuador many accidents have happened in hidrostatic tests therefore a common practice is RT/UT for girth welds and DPT weld-thread o'lets, and  no one header can be used more than three times, of couse the header has to be tested before the pipeline, in every test

for safety point of view and for the confirmation of the weld quality you can adopet the any NDT method according to the requirement like RT having the record and UT no record  ( RT and UT  can check the quality of complete weld ) and DPT is only for the surface defect.

it will be advicable to have the RT and DPT test for the weld of header rest depand on the procedure or specification.

Dear all,

Can anyone suggest that whether it is must to have radiography of all
flanges and nipples on test header for hydrotesting?

or we can only allow by ut or dpt only.
