Re: [MW:6394] Qualification of pipe

Hi Please find below the comments on your query.
1) I have qualified for welding pipe 2" (60.3mm OD) material P-No.1 to P-No.1.
-You haven't mention the Welding Process and thickness of weldmetal qualified and the thickness of Pipe 6" ,P.No.8 and 10H.Any how please find below the comments.

Do I qualified for welding

a) pipe 6" (168.3mm OD) -

As per QW452.3,Diameter qualified with 2" shall be qualified for OD 1" to unlimited.not only OD.Also you should consider the weld metal thickness and Weld Process as mentioned below.

As per ASME QW-452.1,weld metal thickness qualification is restricted if the weld deposit thickness is less than 13mm,it shall be qualied for 2t(2 times of actual weldmetal deposited during qualification). or

If the Weld deposit thickness is 13mm or over with minimum 3 layers he shall be qualified for unlimited weld metal thickness.

b) material P-No.8 to P-No.8 -

Pls.refer QW-416,Essential variables for Welder Qualifications-

For Example,P.Number and F-number,Thickness of weld deposit and etc., are the essential variables.

P.No.8 to 8 can weld according to QW 423.1 but the F-number you have used for P.No.1 weld consumable is not same for the F.Number for P.No.8 welding consumable. So you have to qualify the welder with the P.No.8 Welding consumable.

c) pipe P-No.10H to P-No.10H with 2" (OD).-

You can weld as per QW423.1...but the F.Number for the P.No.10H welding consumable should be same as P.No.1 welding consumable.otherwise you have to qualify your welder to match the F.No.

2) If we welding pipe, the qualification base on OD pipe or thickness pipe? -

The qualification based on OD of the pipe and the Weld metal thickness and the position of welding also involved.
