Full GTAW or any other welding process doesn't submit to any code, otherwise the client specification only can order you to do specified process so select the welding process depends on some factors as:
1- Type of material
2- Thickness of material and diameter ( Pipe Case)
3- Welding Position
4- Process Availability
5- Process Cost
6- Production or site conditions

No code banned full GTAW operation on any metal and it is one of the best process in the world. We prefered SMAW due to economics.
