Re: [MW:6527] RE: 6484] how can we differenciate between cs and kcs?

There are various method by which labs can check chemistry of the same, e.g. Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES), ICP-OES and combustion analysis etc.
 
The laborartory is supposed to carry out this chemical analysis as a destructive test, so be clear on that before sending specimen to the lab.

Actually, handheld XRF instruments (such as Thermo Scientific Niton Analyzers) do directly detect light elements down to Mg on the periodic table. You need an instrument with a silicon drift detector, or SDD. These analyzers can differentiate Al and Si killed steels from typical CS through direct detection of Al and Si. For example, a common use of Niton analyzers in petrochemical PMI is differentiation of A-106 (Si-killed) from A-53 based on Si content alone.
