Re: [MW:9162] Impact test temperature required............

Dear Govi,

(1)- Since the dsign MDMT is -20 c, Impact test shall be done at same temperature or below that regardless ASME B31.3 recommendations.

(2)- For mechanical testing requirements, please check API 5l spec and Client spec.

Dear All,

I have a mill test certificate (MTC) for API 5L X60-PSL2- 30inch dia by 17.5mm thk-SAW welded pipe-. Technical delivery condition is mentioned as TM in the MTC. Samples for mechanical testing has undergone SR. MTC shows that impact testing for the plate material was done at minus 10 deg C.

As per the Client spec, impact testing is to be done in acc with ASME B31.3 Para 323.3.

Project piping specification shows Pressure/Temp limits of 50barg/ -20 to 43 deg C.

Please clarify

  1. whether impact test done at minus 10 deg C is correct or it should have been done at minus 20 deg C.
  2. Whether any mechanical testing is required on the long seam weld of the SAW welded pipe.
with regards
Govi.
