[MW:17307] Fwd: hardness limit for SA 516 Gr. 70

Dear All,

Regarding the subject matter I need to clarify one more thing:

I have another WPS without hardness test as per ASME SEC. IX and with impact test, is it possible to use this procedure without hardness test,  all other variables are meeting the requirement or is it required to carry out hardness test for procedure qualification.

I have to carry out hardness test on the job.

Vessel Detail:
Vessel construction code is ASME SEC. VIII Div 1 Ed. 2010.
MOC : SA 516 Gr 70.
Shell / Dished end thickness : 22 mm/ 28 MM
Welding process : SMAW.
Heat treatment : NIL
Impact test : Required at minus 40 degree centigrade.
as per project spec. hardness to be checked and reported.

Welding procedure qualification details:

WPS No.  1 :   Material  : SA 516 GR 70.
Thickness range qualified  : 16 mm to 50 mm (test coupon 25mm)
                       Welding process : SMAW
                       Electrode : E 7018-1
                       Qualification position  : 3G
                       Preheating  : 40 degree centigrade
Impact tested at minus 46 degree centigrade.
                       Heat treatment : Nil
                       Hardness test : 340  HV10

WPS No.  2 :   Material  : SA 516 GR 70.
Thickness range qualified  : 16 mm to 36 mm (test coupon 18mm)
                       Welding process : SMAW
                       Electrode : E 7018-1
                       Qualification position  : 3G
                       Preheating  : 40 degree centigrade
Impact tested at minus 42 degree centigrade.
                       Heat treatment : Nil
Hardness test : not carried out.

Please give expert opinion.

Thanks and Regards.

Dear members,

My doubt is that -   Is it required the hardness test for welding procedure qualification test because I already have one qualified procedure as per ASME SEC IX with hardness and impact test but the hardness is on little higher side (HV10 340)

Please clear my doubt.

Thanks in advance

Manoj.
