Re: [MW:17405] Austinitic Stainless steel piping, corrosion environnement

Dear Zakaria:

This is the order of steel alloys with refference tocorrosion resistance in marine environments:

  • Carbon Steels < Stainless Steel 18/8 (304) < Stainless Steel 16/8/2 (316) < Dublex Stainless Steel (2205) < Super Duplex Stainless Steel (Zeron 100)

Note that there are other alloys which could be mentioned as an example for each group.

Actually, marine resistant stainless steels begin with 316 not 304. I have seen desalination plants using equipments and tanks fabricated of 316L. Of course pickling (Acid washing) and Passivation improves the corrosion resistance of all stainless steels in any environment especially marine.

Titanium is an excellent option bacause of its superior corrosion resistance and anti-fouling properties but it is costly.

Dear experts,

  Need your help.

Need to confirm if we can use austinitic stainless steel piping (A312 304L & 316L grades)  for maritime environnent and any risk of corrosion.

To code/standard i can refer ?

Regards.
