RE: [MW:17522] Effect of grain growth in toughness and Softness of a metal

Dear sir,

Grain structure are largely affecting on the hardness & toughness.

Fine grade structure that are receiving by (controlled temp cooling)annealing or furnace cooling will give good toughness, ductility & impact values.

Course grain structure are receiving by rapid cooling will give high hardness.

You can refer an IRON CARBIDE DIAGRAM to see CCT diagram for more knowledge on phase transformation & structure behaviour.

Hi Binoy,

As I know grain size increases, hardness will increase, therefore toughness and ductility will decrease..

Thanks,
