The pdf attachment  is production weld mockups for Procedure and performance qualification.

The production weld is the first joint  which  a welder welds after the qualification of his welder qualification test specimen.

In pipeline welding practice it is normal to have different welders working on opposite sides of the pipe for all diameters.

This can be done as there is no code restrictions. If the joint is failed all the welders are considered to be failed.

 

For bigger diameter pipes say, 60" which is usually welded by more than  one welder this can be accepted.

 

The concept of the production weld is to understand the ability of the welder in a real job situation. So on that basis try to avoid using multiple welders in one production joint.

Take RT/UT of that area (consider the weld area of fillet weld for RF pad also)

After getting it cleared in RT/UT; flush grind the area and do the fitup of the RF pad.

Some specification insists to do DPT after flush grinding (Even after acceptance of RT/UT); before fitup of RF pad.

ASME  VIII says tack welders shall be qualified.
Sec. IX not specifically mentioned.

So  both in refinery & power plant , as per ASME IX , QW-461.9   we followed 5F position (pipe to plate 45 degree  inclined) to qualify tack welders.

[MW:25163] RF pad clashing with circumferential pipe weld joints

Dear Experts,

Refer to subject line and attachment , An RF pad is coming closely  with the circumferential weld of a lateral Tee.

Please advice how to resolve it. Code is ASME B 31.1.
